"How To Avoid a Climate Disaster" by Bill Gates

Five pillars of change

There are around 51 billion tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year.

And to avoid climate disaster we need to get to zero…

Everything we do comes at the price of releasing greenhouse gases. However, it is not a fair game for everyone.

Some people have a relatively small individual carbon footprint, meaning that they don’t necessarily fly private jets around (especially to climate conferences). While others have bigger carbon expenses.

While it is not fair - we’re all in this together (where have I heard this before?🤔). This is a global issue and indeed, everything we do counts and adds up.

If you would like to know more about the carbon footprint of different day-to-day things you do, like boiling water or walking through a door (it’s a thing), then I’d recommend you check out our “How bad are bananas” summary. And yes, even munching on a banana has its carbon footprint.

Gate’s book covers 5 main topics:

  1. Why going to zero is necessary

  2. How to have an informed opinion about climate change

  3. Why going to zero will be very hard

  4. Why going to zero is possible

  5. What steps can we take now

And we have summarized all of them for you. The button below will take you there 👇 Stay tuned for more climate content. 🌱🦝
