"There is No Planet B" by Mike Berners-Lee
Understand what the issue really is about
We all know that global warming is a thing. We hear that multiple times every day. There is a lot of information coming in, but it doesn’t necessarily help us understand what really is happening.
In his book, Mike Berners-Lee focuses on that exactly - understanding, instead of just absorbing and accepting facts.
It’s not enough to:
know that plastic is bad for the environment if we don’t know how big of an impact it really has and where it’s coming from
be aware of the inequalities between the amount of food we grow and the amount we actually need if we don’t understand how it will influence us in the long run
realize we need more sustainable energy, but don’t know what’s stopping us from using it
promote ecological and science-based approaches to business if just making a profit is still the most rewarded way to go
it’s not enough to act locally if we can’t reach out and agree on a global scale
It’s not enough to know things, we need to understand. Understand the causes and appreciate the future consequences.
